There is nothing quite like a basket filled with goodies to put a smile on a new mom’s face. Whether creating it yourself or ordering from a company, a baby gift basket makes a wonderful shower gift.
There are two ways to begin creating a hand-picked gift basket: gather a bundle of items then find a basket that fits it all or find the perfect basket then fill it up. The easiest way to put it all together is to have a theme for the gift. If this is a baby shower the gift options may be limited, but the options for personalized themes, on the other hand, are limited only by your imagination.
Develop The Basket’s Theme First
Developing a theme for the gift may be challenging at first, but can really be fun once you get going. It can be a fun theme, serious, or related to some past experience together as friends. Themes can be decided by color (lime green), pattern (polka dots), activity (diaper changes, nursing, car rides, etc), and so on. Personalized gifts are usually the most remembered. For example if the mom-to-be has lots of dogs then a dog themed basket may be perfect for the party.
When working with a theme it becomes easier to tie together some otherwise very unrelated gifts. A diaper bag and a bracelet don’t necessarily have much in common. However, if both are monogrammed with the word “best mom ever,” they are easily tied together. Here is another example: a book, stuffed animal, and outfit can work together as a complete gift when the animal is a horse, the outfit has a pig on it, and the book is about farm animals.
Finding The Perfect Baby Basket
Finding the basket you want to use can be a fun task. It can be any style or size — whatever appeals to you. Some interesting choices can be a collapsible laundry basket, a small washing tub, or even a bassinet or car seat. These are great because the basket will have a second-life along after all the gifts are used and appreciated. Fill these with items related to the “basket” and it’s sure to be a hit. A personal favorite: small baskets are perfect for collecting tiny items like socks, toys and diaper supplies once the baby is born.
Arranging the items in the basket can be a little tricky. If the basket is suddenly too small put the most appropriate items together in the basket and find a matching basket for the rest or wrap it up in a receiving blanket or crib sheet as a second gift. If the basket is oversized, simply buy a crib sheet fluff it up to fill up the bottom and “holes” in the basket. There is always a need for baby wipes so grab a package of those to stuff in any empty spots.
If pressed for time (or if you aren’t feeling very creative) you can always use professional services to create unique baby gift baskets and package them for you. Many times there are even ways to create a personalized gift basket by bringing in some of your own items or having items monogrammed.
